My Story

Step Onward was able to help me bridge the gaps from my senior year in High School through my bachelor’s degree at TWU. I was referred by a teacher and high school counselor who were aware of my homeless status. On top of the financial support, Patrice Pike was able to talk to me and be there for me as an emotional support as well, because I was the first person in my family to go to a university setting. I had no idea how to get through most of those different processes, from getting tuition, getting a dorm room and a meal plan, all of it. She was there whenever I needed her. I could just reach out and call or text or email. I am just so thankful and so grateful for Step Onward.

Cami now has her master’s degree and is teaching.
